Seattle Seahawk Alumni Jerry Wunsch and NFL Players/Alumni to sponsor winter ski trip for pediatric cancer patients

What:

Former NFL OT Jerry Wunsch accompanied a group of pediatric cancer patients on a five-day ski trip to his hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin during the Circle of Friends Winter Week. This marked Wunsch’s twelfth consecutive year sponsoring such a trip, which involves bringing together young cancer patients from around the country for a carefree winter weekend. Mr. Wunsch sponsored 4 young cancer patients from the Tampa Bay area, 4 from the Quad Cities, 4 from the Seattle area and 6 from Wisconsin.

Jerry was joined by NFL Alumni Jared Tomich, Austin King & Bill Schroeder.

Children from eight cities nation-wide converged at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin for a fun filled afternoon. They then traveled to Wausau, where they spent the next several days enjoying such activities as downhill skiing, tubing, campfires, disco bowling and snowmobile rides.

Who:

Wunsch, King, Tomich and Schroeder will accompanied 30 children, ages 8-14, on the trip. The kids are from Tampa’s Children’s Cancer Center, the Children’s Hospital of Milwaukee, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital at Marshfield, the Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center in Seattle, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Camp Sunshine in Atlanta, Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, and Childrens Memorial Hospital of Chicago.

Wednesday, February 11 – Sunday, February 15 2009.

Where:

The Circle of Friends Winter Weekend kicked off in Green Bay Wisconsin, and the remainder of the trip took place in Wausau, Wisconsin. The children participated in activities at Lambeau Field, Granite Peak Ski Lodge/Rib Mountain, Dales Weston Lanes Bowling Alley, Sylvan Hills Tubing Park and theTrailmates Snowmobile Club House.

2:00 p.m. Groups arrive at Green Bay Airport.
2:45 p.m. Lunch at Kroll’s Restaurant, 1990 S. Ridge Road, Green Bay

4:45 p.m. Buses depart Green Bay for Wausau

Thursday, February 12

11:00 a.m. Tubing at Sylvan Hills
1:30 p.m. Tubing concludes
8:30 p.m. Disco Bowling at Weston Lanes Bowling Alley, 5902 Schofield Avenue, Wausau
10:00 p.m. Bowling concludes

Friday, February 13

9:30 am Skiing at Granite Peak Ski Resort, 3605 North Mountain Rd, Wausau
2:00 pm Skiing concludes

Saturday, February 14

11:30 a.m. Snowmobile rides leaving from Trailmate’s Snowmobile Club House, Wausau
(Directions: Take Hwy. 51 to the Hwy. WW exit. Turn left at the stop sign: the club is about 2 miles down the road.) 1:00 p.m. Lunch at Trailmate’s Snowmobile Club House
2:00 p.m. Individual Snowmobile rides last until 2:45 p.m.
6:00 pm Dinner and dance at Pinewood Supper Club

Sunday, February 15

10:30 a.m. Groups depart for their home cities.
